Having students meet the author of a text is always powerful. Not only will she be able to speak to them about her experience during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, but also her techniques as a writer. Ji-Li will provide the inspiration of her memoir as well as her experiences as an eyewitness and participant during the Chinese Cultural Revolution beginning in 1966 to 1976. She also takes questions from the students and interacts with the audience. My classes have so many questions for Ji-Li, and I know this will be an unforgettable experience for them. They are inspired by her life and her writing. The reading of the text will be so much more meaningful to them by getting to meet her and see she is a real person. I further hope that my students will write more and begin to tell their stories.
