Many of my students are reluctant readers, and of those students, many have never finished a book independently. There is something very rewarding about finishing a book on one's own, and I strive to do all I can to help my students experience that success. I have found that graphic novels have hooked even my most reluctant readers, and I would like to build my collection so that my students will have many options at their fingertips.
It is no secret that the more students read, the more they grow as readers. Therefore, my biggest goal as a reading teacher is to get students to read more! I feel strongly that graphic novels can help me achieve this goal while helping my students' become stronger readers.
These books will not only serve the students I will greet in the fall, but also will be placed in the hands of future students for years to come. I am excited to build my collection of graphic novels, and I know my students will be thrilled to see so many new reading options.
