We are all life-long learners. I have done a great deal of learning myself these past few months as our world goes through many changes. I am also a strong believer that it is my job as a teacher to guide my students in learning life skills along with academics.
In today's challenging world, I want to provide my students with books that cover relevant topics that will help them to be successful members of our future society!
You're never too old to read a picture book- especially when they are designed to cover some heavy subject matter. The books that I have chosen below reflect a wide range of topics including diversity, mindfulness, inclusivity, empathy, and compassion. I want these books in the hands of my 5th graders to show them that it is important to not only love others but also to love ourselves!
I've also included some resources that will give my students some flexibility for doing their reading. The feedback phones are used for students to be able to hear themselves read- thus building fluency, and what's more fun than reading a book on a giant bouncy ball!?
