I always felt like a chemistry classroom was only as good as the labs in it. As a first-year teacher, I dream to make meaningful and rigorous content for my students to engage in. That means stepping away from the traditional banking-mode of teaching and creating engaging, hands-on activities. I want my students to be able to experience science as any other scientist would. What is a chemistry classroom without proper weighing equipment? I struggle with having to share 4-6 working scales between my department and finding labs that do not require weighing any materials. I feel like I shouldn't have to work around these limitations, and as a social justice educator, my students shouldn't be exempt from these learning opportunities. Please help my classroom become the science lab that it deserves. Help my students become real scientists.
