Using Scholastic Scope Magazine allows students to read interesting articles and have group discussions. There are short articles and stories to allow students of all ability levels to participate. This is also a wonderful magazine to use when doing reteaching of not yet mastered power standards. Debate and Narrative Nonfiction are a huge part of our 8th grade curriculum. Debate and Argument are a huge part of our curriculum and the debates in Scope allow students to see how others create their arguments before they have their own debates. Narrative Nonfiction is another area Scope does well which we cover in 8th grade. Great short article examples students can reference and discuss.
