Even though we are all wearing masks at our school, we want our students to see our smiles. Masks are impersonal and, to a brand-new middle schooler, they add to the general anxiety the students already feel about leaving elementary school. With 3" buttons of our faces, we can really welcome our new students and show them we appreciate having them back in our classroom. Even when it's not clear from just our eyes and foreheads that we're trying to encourage an uncertain student, a clear picture of us smiling at them will go a long way toward making them feel comfortable and encouraged.
