I have introduced STEAM Fridays to my Kindergarten class this year. On Fridays, I give my students a problem and they have to work in teams to try to solve it. Some of the STEAM Friday activities have included: making a boat to help the Gingerbread Man get across the river without getting wet, incline Plane Ball Rolling Contest, how to make the tallest structure with only marshmallows and toothpicks, and to make a container to hold candy with only the materials in the bucket. These are just a few that we have done in class so far this year. When learning is introduced in a fun and engaging manner ,students do not realize they are learning! They just think they are having fun. We need these kits to bring our Steam Fridays up a notch. These kits will make the Sciences fun and engaging and give them a idea what it is like to be an Engineer, a Scientist, a Mathematician or a Technology expert for a career. I want them to know that they an reach for the stars and they can be what every they want to be when they grow up!
