While my school has access to laptops, they are all older models that are quickly aging. It is my hope that I can gradually phase out using the older laptops by buying sets of new Lenovo laptops over the next school year. My students will use their new laptop computers to conduct research and edit papers during our writing workshops in social studies class. They will be able to access their google documents on a daily basis to update what needs to be shared for various assignments in my class. My children are diligently working on building their research and writing skills in order to be properly prepared for college. Many of them do not have access to a computer outside of school so providing them with laptops during class time will greatly benefit them. It will allow them to build the skills they need to be successful as they watch the modeling of how to use the internet for research and then have hands on practice. Providing them with access to technology will boost their interest in their classroom experience and increase their chance of academic success.
