In today's age of technology, board games have taken a back seat to tablet-based games that are often played in isolation. On the other hand, board games are interactive, they help build learning, social, and communication skills, as well as improve verbal abilities and attention skills by developing the ability to concentrate and focus for longer periods of time. Seeing students communicating verbally instead of texting, and thinking instead of searching for answers, is one of the benefits of playing with board games. When my students play board games they talk, they laugh, they collaborate, and they listen to each other. Board games are a great social activity that encourages learning and development.
