My students are very enthusiastic about current events and enjoy hands on projects as well as project-based learning. They attend a community public school in NYC, which is located within a housing project in a high poverty area. My students are held to high expectations, however we are faced with a shortage of materials, books and magazines. These materials are necessary to facilitate, create and sustain teaching in the science content area in our classroom. Coupled with that, my students are held accountable to the same standards as all fourth graders on NYS standardized test. They have been immersed in theory but need the practical experiments to confirm and support investigative and inquiry skills.
