As I embark on my first full year of being a special education in a moderate/severe classroom, I am well aware that not all students are the same nor learn the same way. Our classroom is comprised of thirteen explorative and energetic learners who are not always able to put forth their best effort when sitting at a regular desk and chair. My students would benefit from these flexible seating accommodations in so many ways!
A plush rug allow them to work on the carpet where they would have more space for mobility and could either sit up or lay down as they worked. We would also use the carpet during our morning meeting and other activities where students will be working on their social and emotional skills. The seat cushions would allow them to bounce in their chairs as they worked or sway back and forth while giving them the sensory input that they need with their texture.
Lastly, the bean bags would be used during academic centers in our library where students could curl up in them as they explore books! As a first-year teacher, I am very limited in resources and am building my classroom from scratch. Please help me obtain the tools necessary to create a fruitful learning environment for my kiddos.
