My students are from Los Angeles, California. The students come from a variety of backgrounds in every way including ethnically, socially, developmentally and economically. They are bright, capable, enthusiastic learners. Some of the students are working hard on speaking skills and are learning to speak English well. Some of the students only speak English at school because it is not their native or home language. They need additional practice with listening and speaking. Some are working on comprehension and Ipods will provide the focused extra practice that they need. Students will hear themselves and others read and speak English well in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. The students are as close to falling in love with reading and literacy learning as one can get. I have much confidence that adding the Ipod touches to their repertoire of tools will dramatically increase the speed and engagement of the literacy process. It will add the element of fun to the process.
