A child's first year of school is the foundation of their learning! I want to be able to make that foundation as strong as possible. To do this, I believe I need to meet the childen's needs of feeling loved, safe, and comfortable. If they do not feel these things, they will not strive to do their best. Allowing the students freedom in where they sit as well as what type of seating they choose allows them to begin to learn responsibility and allows them to take ownership of their learning experience. If the students feel as though they have made some decisions, I believe they are more likely to succeed in the classroom. Giving each student an opportunity to sit in a wobble chair where they could wiggle without getting in trouble, bounce on a balance ball a little just to get those wiggles out, and sit on a sensory cushion is an opportunity to see just how much these students can achieve!
