With this small group of students I am focusing on building up their social emotional stamina, interpersonal communication skills and confidence at school in general. This pillow and blanket project is not a "reward" in any way or "free time" either. We will use this time to practice planning a project, following directions, helping each other and celebrating each other's success. Some of these students do not yet have feelings of success at school this year or feel intrinsically motivated to engage during class time. This project time will be an opportunity for them to engage with me and their classmates without "academic" pressure, create something they can take home that they feel proud of and successful at and give all of a chance to get to know each other better which, in turn, will support our academic discussions around reading and school work. The pillow I made in 7th grade is literally one of my favorite memories from my entire K-12 education, and I deeply appreciate your support in providing this experience to my class.
