My students love to do things on their own. When they see things as a demonstration it is very cool but it doesn't have the same effect to students as if they were to have a personal group experiences. In class we are currently heating and cooling materials and looking for patterns in heat transfer. I find myself limited in the activities we do because of the lack of materials; specifically a hot plate or 2. With the adequate equipment students can gather and analyze their own data and communicate their findings with their classmates. It also allows them to try different variables than other groups to share out what they were curious about.
