We currently are desperately in need of some novel sets because our district curriculum is 16 years old, and not up to state standards. These novels will engage the students in reading while I am teaching them fiction skills such as character analysis, plot, theme, inferencing, summary, poetry, and figurative language. Putting a book in the hands of all of my students really makes and impact on their engagement and focus on the text. These books will be used to give the students opportunities to read fluently and engage in rich vocabulary conversations with me and their peers. Reading is a foundation skill needed to be successful in life. These books will help make that possible.
