My focus is to help students become the best version of themselves as they can, in the year they're in my classroom. By giving them a structured place to store their cell phone for charging during class, they can engage in the content rather than worrying about what's happening on social media. In addition, I read "Make It Stick" last year and it changed the way I taught my class. Test scores have consistently been better over the last year because we talk about how to learn, rather than just memorizing information. Books like Carol Dweck's "Mindset" and Angela Duckworth's "Grit" will help me find ways to develop these habits in the lives of my students as well.
