Most of my students speak 2 languages but don't read in either one very well. I want to spark their desire to read by offering them a library in which they see themselves represented. Whether they see themselves when they read about the girl from Puerto Rico or the boy from Mexico, whether it's reading words in Spanish, or stories about important Hispanic figures. I think this will help make a difference in their wanting to read on their own. I hope this will also increase the pride they feel about their backgrounds and about having black or brown skin!
