Just about anyone has trouble with regulating their emotions at some point. For students with varying exceptionalities, this is even more difficult for them. Imagine not being able to communicate your emotions or needs. Imagine feeling very overstimulated or overwhelmed and not having anywhere to go. Sounds frustrating, right? I teach special education students from 7th-9th grade. These students are learning how to communicate, regulate their emotions, fulfill their sensory needs, and lots of academics! Students need a safe and welcoming calm corner where they can practice regulating their emotions and meeting their sensory needs in order to have greater success at school. These items will help build a calm corner where students can go to whenever they are feeling overstimulated or when they need a safe space to feel and regulate their emotions.
