My students in Special Education need opportunities to explore, problem solve and think for themselves. It is a wonderful time for them to have a chance to experience hands on projects to accomplish these goals and objectives. As their teacher, I have been amazed at how they progress and become more confident as they tackle the problems put in front of them. ie. how can you build a bridge that can withstand a landslide, how can you make a slingshot out of toilet paper rolls, a pencil and rubber bands, what will go faster on string with a balloon rocket? a paper, plastic or wide plastic straw, etc. They learn to predict, observe, and explore, and they have to write about what their predictions and findings are about.
