I am a first year teacher with A LOT to learn. One of the many things I have learned is that not all students are exactly the same and I cannot expect them to perform at their highest ability if they are not comfortable with where they are sitting. The purpose of flexible seating is to give students the ability and responsibility to choose a seat that is suitable and fitting for them. Many of the students are distracted by things inside their desks, lay their heads down and more, but if they are able to sit in a more comfortable seat or cushion with no distractions from items near them, then the goal is that they remain engaged and active. A large portion of the kids in my classroom struggle with focusing and miss so much of the important content or instruction that I'm trying to deliver. I strongly believe that there are many factors that contribute to a successful education, but I am hoping that taking this first step will make a world of difference. Please help me make this step a reality for these amazing kids!
