My students are authentic, genuine, and LOVE to interact with their peers! With their passion and excitement for social interaction comes a strong need for developmentally appropriate resources that foster independence, encourage proper play skills, and include necessary academic content. Currently, my classroom is in desperate need of these differentiated learning materials in order to help students engage in appropriate social interaction, teamwork skills, and listening behaviors. A few of these materials also include: Phonics Dominoes, Reading Dice, and Cuisenaire Rods. With the purchase of these specific, differentiated learning materials, students will be able to play, learn, and grow as socially and emotionally equipped individuals. As a new teacher who is working to build a brand new special education classroom, I do not have enough differentiated materials to make social activities academically appropriate, engaging, and developmentally suitable for learners. This project will give me the tools to help my students become more successful while interacting with peers during group projects, partner work, as well as developing and maintaining friendships in both my resource room and their general education classrooms! By targeting my students need to acquire greater social, emotional, and play skills, students will achieve greater success not just in their academic abilities but also in their capacity to work and respond to others.
