In order to help each child achieve their fullest potential, it is essential to provide them with a positive, safe, collaborative, and comfortable learning environment. This means I must increase engagement and eliminate distractions, while also facilitating opportunities for meaningful collaboration. Flexible seating is just what our classroom needs to take the learning to the next level. For some students, that means swivel stools to get out the wiggles (yes, middle schoolers still have them!), and increase focus during whole group and small group instruction. With increased focus, students will be able to reach their personalized reading goals. For others, it means taking a seat and moving to a corner of the classroom to work independently with headphones to enhance concentration and decrease distractions. Either way, all students deserve an opportunity to excel and feel successful at school. Flexible seating will without a doubt elevate focus and engagement, which will ultimately lead to a significant increase in academic achievement.
