All early elementary education programs gather at the rug for story time, calendar, class meetings, and much more. I was hired last at my school this year, so inevitably, I receive the oldest carpet. Because our custodial staff was unable to get the carpet clean. We ended up throwing it out. I have been using a red shag carpet, that the custodian cannot vacuum because it makes the vacuum stall. My students need an early childhood learning carpet to gather on. A carpet that will enhance their communication, their academic progress, and bring intention and focus to our meetings. Our Pre-school Program at Maryville Elementary, is ready for some updated kitchen equipment to enhance the social and emotional development of our students. These kids love to play "house, store, kitchen" everyday, and the plastic kitchen set we are using is being held together by masking tape, and one door is stuck shut. A new kitchen set would be such an exciting addition to our "centers" time. Our centers are designed to let students move around the room, and engage in reading, writing, pretending, building, and problem solving. The kitchen area, just like our own homes, is the CENTER of our centers! This is where reading of menus takes place, writing lists, dressing up, and problem solving takes place everyday. These skills are vital to a four year old's social and emotional growth.
