As author Roald Dahl said "If you are going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books." Students in my classroom are encouraged to read, reread, and read again any and all books they can get their hands on. Throughout the school year, in addition to our regular lessons, we prepare for a statewide reading competition. Twenty books have been selected for the students to read and become familiar with prior to the competition that takes place at the end of February. In our classroom we will be reading all of these book; individually, in small book groups, and as a whole class. "The more that you read, the more things you will know The more you learn the more places you'll go" Dr Seuss. I have spent the summer trying to secure copies of each of these books to allow all students to have access to them as we prepare for the competition. Your donation will insure that multiple copies of all 20 books are in our classroom at the start of the school year! Last year our team placed 5th in the state. We did amazingly well with not a lot of time to prepare. We received the list less than 3 months before the competition. It is my hope to have these books in the hands of my students earlier to allow them more time to prepare, with that who know how far we will go!
