With these new materials for our classroom library, I am very excited to give my students the opportunity to take ownership of their new class library. Currently, our classroom library has approximately 15 books and is in desperate need of a more diverse reading selection.
Many of the students in my class are struggling readers and need all the opportunities they can get to explore literature. With the use of the HP Chromebook and a website called booksource.com, my students will have the ability "check out" books just like real library. Using the scanner, the students will be able to check out and return books under their name. Once a book is returned, the system will ask students to answer questions about the book as well as write a short review of the book they read. These reviews will be accessed by all students in the classroom, which will give students a chance to read about a book before they check it out.
My students will love being in charge of their own classroom library. This addition to our classroom will give them a sense of ownership and responsibility that they will carry for the rest of their lives.
