We do about 60% of our whole group learning on the carpet in our classroom. We start our days here with morning meeting and Number Corner (Advanced Calendar) and end it there with dismissal. The presence of a bright, clean, and welcoming learning environment is essential to a classroom community. I would love to bring something new, and inviting into the classroom that will be well used for years to come!
A large colorful carpet will not only provide our class with comfortable learning space, it will also help to assist in classroom management and structure. The previous teacher left a few rugs behind in the classroom. However, the rugs are well loved, small, and are not the most efficient in assisting with classroom management. I would love to provide my students with a new rug that will brighten our learning environment, and help to provide additional structure within the classroom.
Each square will be assigned to a student so that they are able to sit comfortably, and learn in a space that is best for them. This would help to eliminate many problems we experience currently (crowded learning area, bickering, and nitpicking) that distract from our learning.
