I will utilize these books as I teach Social Studies so that I can better assist students in understanding the Social Studies curriculum and improve reading skills in 2nd grade. Students at this age need more time to read books at their levels and to have quality, informative books read to them that will engage them and provide rich literature experiences. The books will be used in at least two classrooms as I teach Social Studies. Likewise, they will be made available to students during independent reading time as well when they are given the opportunity to choose books of interest to them. Multiple copies allow for whole class discussions on similar books, partner reading and essentially more hands and eyes on particular books of interest to help teach the curriculum. Integrating subjects is the best and most time efficient means to teaching students life-long skills. These books will help develop language, reading and social studies knowledge and skills.
