For First Graders, the use of math manipulatives is important in order to help students understand the standards. Using manipulatives in math, the students can have a visual hands-on approach to the content. Ten frames, 100 charts, and Rekenrek beads, all help to provide a deeper understanding of what concepts they are being taught in the math curriculum. These tactile manipulatives can be used in small groups, as well as whole group instruction. These activities will keep the students engaged and focused. By donating to our math project, you will help the students to be able to focus, and pay attention, which will in turn, help them better understand and put these math concepts into practice. My goal is to help the students have stronger number sense and greater math fluency. I will be using "Math Talks" and these manipulatives to reach my goal.
