Math is sometimes a scary subject for middle school students; yet, others view it as a boring subject. I am passionate about engaging every single student in the math lessons being taught on a daily basis. It is my goal to bring engaging, memorable activities to the classroom in order for my students to conceptually understand the topics and go above and beyond memorizing formulas and completing worksheets. My students have such a deep love for learning, and I want to make an impression on that by providing them with engaging and fun-filled activities! I strive to create a safe, comfortable and fun math class environment where my students look forward to coming and learning. When my students are actively engaged and are enjoying what they are doing, they achieve absolutely amazing things! This activity would take my classroom engagement and my student enthusiasm to the next level! Think about the game we all loved to play growing up - Hungry Hungry Hippos. But now, think about that board game in a human version! Yes, I want my students to play Human Hungry Hungry Hippos. Competing in pairs, students would work as teammates to scoot, collect as many balls as possible, return to their cones and complete the math problems that corresponded with the colors of balls they had collected. This activity would not only involve math, but would also incorporate soft skills such as teamwork, communication and positive attitudes. This activity could be used over and over again. These materials would drive my students' love for learning and would get them even more excited to come to class each day! My students and I would be forever grateful to anyone who decides to donate!
