The resources for my classroom will be invaluable to my students. It is imperative that students have an opportunity to experience diverse literature in the classroom. These novels will help convey to my students that it is perfectly acceptable to be different. Each student is unique and brings something exciting to the table, they just need the confidence to accept those differences. Through these novels we can explore all of the literary devices, analyses, and rigor that students need to learn moving into high school, yet still maintain relevance in their lives.
By using a text that students find relevant they will engage with the text and be able to adapt the story to their lives. Students need to see themselves, and their experiences, in the books they read. Addressing cultural and social differences in books allow students to connect with the book in ways that traditional literature can't do. By introducing diverse literature into the classroom we can increase literacy and an overall desire to read within our students.
