The first-grade students at Alice Smith Elementary School have an exciting opportunity to participate in Sierra Nevada Journeys’ unique, science education program which uses the outdoors as an extension to the classroom. We are looking for support from community members to offset the cost of the program, so that our kids receive innovative educational experiences regardless of socio- economic backgrounds. Support from donors will bring science to life for students and increases their STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) knowledge and comprehension. Furthermore, this program benefits students tremendously as it: • Improves scholastic achievement - 90% of students demonstrated improved mastery of state science standards after participating in Sierra Nevada Journeys’ programming; • Makes STEM subjects accessible, helping students become more comfortable with science; • Helps students develop leadership skills; • Delivers high-quality curriculum aligned to state and national standards; and • Increases exposure to nature as a classroom setting and allows for students to identify with outdoor, community areas. Thank you so much for considering our request. With your generous contribution, students will receive a hands-on, minds-on learning experience to help prepare them for success in a world where science and technology are ever-increasing. I look forward to partnering with you in making our community a fantastic place for kids to learn.
