A library of diverse books helps students understand the world, themselves, and their own potential as they grow older. A mixture of nonfiction and fiction text in a classroom library is also important! We want students to experience heartbreak, laughter, joy, humor, love, and sadness as readers because that is what keeps them engaged. When they fall in love with a book, they are more inclined to read another... and when they have a selection to explore, they are more likely to find the one to hook them! These books will start to grow my classroom library selection for my students and promote genre exploration for my students, with the ultimate goal of EVERY student loving to read!
