My students attend an inner-city school. The children come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Approximately one-fourth of the children are Hispanic and one-half are African-American. Many do not have books or magazines readily available for them at home. They are eager to learn. However, they face many challenges in their lives at this early age of 9-10 years old.
