Formatted as a play, "The Laramie Project" is unique because it offers many different characters' perspectives as it shows the impact one person can have on their community. The themes in "The Laramie Project" are timeless- 20 years after the death of Matthew Shepard, the issues facing Laramie, Wyoming are still relevant today. Students connect to this text, because they are the ones who are facing similar challenges every day. This play also broadens their worldview and introduces them to LGBTQ issues. It provides students with a safe outlet for meaningful discussion related to literature.
