Reading is an important skill for all students. I am working on increasing my students' vocabulary, fluency, comprehension skills and ultimately boost their interest in reading. I teach ELA for three classes of 5th and 6th graders coming to a total of 44 students. I want to be able to provide students with additional resources to increase my classroom library and offer fun ways to practice literacy skills.
I want my students to have a strong love for reading. I truly believe that supplying my classroom with literacy centered games and high interest level books will help foster my students love for reading.
The resources I am looking to supply my classroom with all help students practice important skills they need to master. The materials I selected allow students to play games to learn inferencing, using context clues, learn new vocabulary, identify greek roots of words and understanding main idea of texts. My students struggle with reading comprehension and understanding main idea. If my students had more resources to practice important reading comprehension skills it will give them more success within reading. The list of items above will be used during my ELA class for free choice but will allow me to have educational items that are fun.
