J.K. Rowling said it best when she said, “If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.” My goal for my students is to help them find "the right book", as well as give them the skills to read and comprehend that book. I teach a high population of ELL students who need the ability to listen to and replay at their own pace, question and answer choices as well as watch and listen to videos over unfamiliar topics to gain experience with the English language. Thankfully, I've been blessed to reach around 400 students in my 5 years of teaching reading, and I hope to reach many more in the years to come. The technology we use at school is so important to their development and education, however this technology cannot meet its full potential unless students have the ability to hear what they are looking up and exploring. Seeing a picture of something for the first time is wonderful, but having the ability to hear what a steam train sounds like, for instance, makes the picture come alive! Earbuds are part of our school supply list, but most students find it hard to bring even the simplest of supplies like pencils or folders, so they do not have personal earbuds. That is why I am asking for a class set of headphones.
