I work at CMS, in Central Falls, RI. Our students participate in "Drop Everything And Read -- D.E.A.R." for 30 minutes a day. This practice creates good readers from interest based reading versus academic reading. My students are struggling because we do not have enough books that they want to read. They need more materials to fully immerse themselves in the experience of reading. Help me create a learning environment that is unique and diverse as my students. Reading can open doors and give us moments of revelation. I want to help all my students, ranging from multilingual language learners, special education, and general education students, find a passion for reading. With this donation I plan to add to my own collection in the classroom so that all students have the opportunity to grow as readers and learners. Our school is concentrating on literacy this year, and my students would like to achieve higher levels of reading and understanding.
