Students in the our Choral Program study many different types and genres of music in their music curriculum. When students sing multicultural pieces that require hand percussion (like the 2 djembe drums requested), they do not receive the full effect of the singing experience in rehearsal and in performance without drums. The over all experience with percussion (like the two djembe drums requested) being played is elevated, and helps students appreciate the beauty and importance of piece of music they perform. This helps students develop a new found genre of music study that they normally would not be exposed to any other way than traveling to a different country and experiencing the music and culture first hand. The students will use these instruments in rehearsal and perform with them at ratings festival in early April 2019. Many more students involved in the Esperanza Choral program continue to use these items for other singing performance projects/rehearsals/concerts as well.
