In the quest to find new ways to engage student learning in the classroom, many music educators have turned to ukuleles as a way to teach children about harmony and chord changes. Playing this instrument can also aid in hand-eye coordination and aural skills. Their size is perfect for elementary-sized hands. Their gentle sound allows students to play without disturbing those around them. Ukuleles would be a valuable addition to our music classroom. With our program being made up of mostly percussion instruments, many students have yet to be exposed to any sort of string instrument. Our students would be so thrilled to get a chance to play this fun, new instrument.
