I am a special education teacher in Hartford CT and I am in great need of flexible seating for my classroom. 12 students from my caseload have ADHD in addition to other disabilites and their bodies need constant movement, which makes it hard for them to be on task. I have three big tables in my room and I am going to use these flexible seating options for two of my tables which are closest to the board. These flexible seating options can help set my special education students up for success by allowing them to have the movement they crave, while being safe and paying attention to the task at hand. These special chairs will help give my students the opportunity to move their bodies, while they still stay in the same place. Sustaining attention to task is one of the greatest challenges for my kiddos, as they are only able to do that mostly with adult prompting so far. Our classroom will be a quiet, more suitable place to learn with the addition of these wobbly chairs. Flexible seating options will help my kiddos progress towards the achievement of their Individualized Education Plan, which will help them access grade level curriculum in all their academic subjects. I can just picture my kiddos safely wobbling around with a smile of their faces, while still paying attention to what matters most - their education.
