Students need to read in order to grow their vocabulary, self-awareness, and appreciation to all types of people, environment, and time periods. Books discuss certain themes that are relevant to teenagers lives at the moment and help guide them down the right path. I chose The Bell Jar and Of Mice and Men because students need to learn about the impact of mental illness and be aware of it. Books really do change lives, and all students deserve the chance to read about the famous Gatsby, Piggy, George and Lenny, and we need to give them that chance! The power of theme in a novel can change a students live, cause realization or simply can just be a good example of a life lesson.
