Graphic novels are enticing to even the most reluctant of readers. The combination of illustrations and text supports comprehension for students who are learning English and building their reading skills. In Mount Vernon, we have a wide range of reading needs. Providing a vast array of diverse independent reading books in our classroom libraries allows every student to choose books that match their reading needs and interests. The opportunity to purchase new titles that directly reflect students' experiences and backgrounds helps me match kids to appropriate books. As students continue to devour my classroom library, I need to regularly expand the selection so they can continue to grow as life long readers.
