I chose the Crawl and Climb Caterpillar to help encourage our student's desire to participate in gross motor activities. Research has proven that gross motor play in the preschool years is crucial to a child's development. Gross motor play benefits preschool children by helping them develop balance and coordination, attention and alertness which helps them with sensory processing, strength and endurance, body awareness and movement planning. The Crawl and Climb Caterpillar is designed to meet the needs of every student in the preschool setting and is easily accessible by students with or without special needs. This structure will benefit our students additionally by creating a sense of community and fostering friendships between students of all abilities; as well as, encourage gross motor skills for all students in our program.
