Most of my students come from homes in which books and reading resources are not readily available. Many of them live a great distance from the nearest library and do not have access to the internet at home. My students love to read new books that interest them, and are on their maturity level. A majority of my students read two or three levels below grade level proficiency. Having a class set of books allows me, the teacher, to read as the students follow along. These books will facilitate the students' ability to become consumed with, and lose themselves, in a text that is at their interest and maturity levels. This interest bridges the gap between what they want to read, and what they can read. It helps them fall in love with books and become lifelong readers.
