My Advanced Placement art students work incredibly hard on their artwork. We need a good system to photograph the beautiful pieces they make to submit them to the College Board. Last year we relied on cell phones, and I was not happy with the pictures we submitted which I worry affected their scores. I also have students creating an AP art 3d portfolio for the first time this year, and there is no way to get good photos of 3d work without a dedicated studio setup. I also want to be able to take quality photos to submit students' work to contests, such as a juried exhibit at a local gallery I was just made aware of. I've requested equipment which would affordably set up a basic photo studio to take images of artwork. The digital SLR camera is key as it allows us to take a good quality photographs. This camera comes with a tripod which will also be key for taking successful images when we want longer exposures for greater focus. In addition, the backdrop stand, backdrop paper, and basic lights would allow us to create an environment that depicts artwork professionally. In an AP training I took this fall, I was told repeatedly that good photographs were key to good scores. This equipment would help me do that. While this equipment will be useful this year, it is also an investment for our art program for years to come. Every year I have excited freshman and sophomores ask me about the chance to take AP art, and I want to be able to help them also show their work properly.
