Some days our kids show up to class not ready. Maybe they didn't eat breakfast or they forgot to do their homework. Sometimes, they just might not have the attention to pay attention. Most of the time, these students do not know how to ask for the break they need, so their effort or their behavior starts to diminish. It's important for me to have a proactive approach to teaching them how to ask for a break but having the right materials for them to use during their break. My goal is to work with students to identify goals specific to their individual learning needs, create dynamic lessons individualized to their goal, and provide guided support to learn what they need to meet their goal. As students work towards their goal, I will give each student a choice of break activity that they will work to do once they complete their assignment or complete so much time on their assignment. These materials give these students a chance to refocus back on their task by taking small sensory breaks.
