The books being requested for this classroom library will really fulfill a need that my students express: the desire to start and finish a book! My students frequently tell me that they have not read a book for pleasure in years, or that they dislike reading because it is boring. Each time I talk about Independent Reading (a requirement at my school) the students hang their heads in dismay. I am frequently told that if the books available were more current or interesting, then maybe my students would be able to finish a book. Consequently, a sizable portion of the books requested for this classroom library are of the Young Adult genre. By seeing their age group represented in the various settings of these novels, my students will be able to relate to the material better than some of the other titles in my small collection. These books will both draw and maintain the attention of my students. Please help them to help themselves achieve their reading goals!
