These materials will help my students find literature which they will enjoy to read and which will help them become life long learners and readers. I have included many genres of literature to meet the interests of all my students. Everyone knows, and research shows that independent reading helps students in all areas of their lives. Students' vocabulary grows, students' ability to use reason and make inferences grows, and students' can find connections lacking in real life. Please help my students connect with literature and grow a love of reading. Within the wish list, you will find inspirational books from athletes like Aly Raisman and Tim Tebow, books which help guide teens through tough times like 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, as well as fiction which spans topics of teenage love, the Holocaust, and nature and survival. Many students believe they hate reading because they haven't come across a book which speaks to them. Once you can put a book into a child's hand that they can connect with, a whole new world is opened to them and they can begin to explore other novels within that genre. Reading helps us connect with others to understand what issues we are facing are not issues we face alone. Others have gone before us and others will come after us fighting the same battles as we have to face. This is an essential lesson for students to learn as it can be difficult to be a teenager in 2019. Students feel disconnected and isolated when struggling through problems. Books can help combat against this and inspire hope in an otherwise hopeless mindset.
