The use of Math games allows students to take charge of their learning, make the choices that work best for them, and practice math skills in a fun and engaging way. During center times they choose a game that is both engaging for them and helps them practice a skill they are working to master. Allowing choice in how students practice and apply a skill is critical to their learning. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their center activities. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and make greater growth toward achieving their math goals when they are just working on a paper based task. This supports the work that we are doing around a Universal Design for Learning. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of task. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional math choices. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
